The term ‘crewel work’ means embroidery with crewel wool threads on any fabric. The word ‘Jacobean’ describes the style of the design - influenced by English crewel work designs of the early 17th century. Jacobean crewel work is always stitched on natural-coloured pure linen twill fabric.

The Tree of Life is a very important part of Jacobean design, showing the influence of Eastern style on British fashion in the 17th century.

This design fits best in a 10" (25cm) ring frame. Some embroidery experience will prove helpful.

The design explores a variety of different traditional crewel work stitches (4 outline stitches, long and short shading, satin stitch and 6 decorative stitches).

You get full instructions for each stitch, with tips on how to achieve the best results, delivered in pdf format by email.

You will also need:  linen twill fabric, crewel wool, chenille needles, tapestry needles, large crewel needles
