Learn the basics of box making with me, Lizzy Pye, over three two-hour sessions.

Dates: 12th, 19th and 26th February 2022

9.30-11.30 am (British time)

Have you ever wondered how fabric boxes are made?  It is a wonderful technique, and once you master the basics, the sky is the limit in terms of design!

In this class, we will focus on the basics: covering the card and constructing a simple lidded box with invisible stitches.

The card pieces are pre-cut, so you can feel how the box should fit together, before you approach more complex boxes.

In the first session we will start covering the internal card pieces with padding and fabric, and begin stitching the first pieces together.

In the second session we will start construct the external box.

In the third session we will finish the box, construct the lid and stitch the hinge.

Between each session, there will be some work to do to get to the next stage (this will be repetition of what we cover in class).

You will receive a kit of materials including:

Pre-cut and labelled card pieces

Felt for padding

Curved needles

You will need:

Scissors for fabric, thread and sticky tape

Double sided sticky tape

Quilting/patchwork cotton in two complementary colours.  Very small patterns are best, as they are easier to match (or don't need matching at all)

Polyester sewing thread to match each fabric (I like Gutermann Sew-All)

Extra strong thread such as Coats Duet

You will also need a reasonable internet connection, and to be able to send photos of your work during class - this is so I can see how you are getting on and give you feedback directly as you are stitching.
