The word ‘goldwork’ is used to describe embroidery with metal threads and wires, even if they are not gold!  This technique has a long history all over the world; originally reserved for items of state and ceremony, now it can be enjoyed by everyone.

Some threads are stitched over to secure them to the fabric, others are cut and stitched through - like beads.

This design fits in a 10 inch ring frame and is ideal as a next step from basic goldwork.  It also includes a little introduction-level silk shading.

The project explores two types of couching plus chipping, and padding techniques.

You get full instructions for each stitch, with tips on how to achieve the best results, delivered in pdf format by email.

You will also need:  fabric of your choice (I used Normandy linen), calico backing fabric, yellow felt, red felt, stranded cotton embroidery thread, pearl purl (No.1, No.2 and super, half a metre each), Japanese thread (approximately 5m), 'wine' coloured wire check (1/2m), bright check (1/2m), gold-coloured sewing thread, embroidery needles (size 10), chenille needle (size 20).
