Wondering what a mellor is for? You’re not the only one!

A mellor is a sadly overlooked embroidery tool which is used for laying and guiding threads into place.

In goldwork it plays a special role in helping to prevent cracks forming while you stitch cutwork or chipping (see guide).

It can also be used for cross stitch and tapestry/needlepoint to help guide the threads so that they lie flat together for better coverage.

These mellors are gold-plated stainless steel.
